Montado

The 107 hectare Montado Golf course, opened in 1992, was designed by the Portuguese Duarte Sottomayor, who began his career working with the famous Robert Trent Jones. The aim was to create a course where top championships could be played and club players of all levels would also get maximum enjoyment.

The course unfolds beneath old oaks, olive trees, chestnut and pines, and is similar to some of the Florida courses, with is lakes, creeks and open rolling fairways. It is surrounded by hundred year old vineyards of Muscatel and overlooked by the Castle of Palmela.

Hole number 5, a Par 4 with a dogleg to the left, demands a good drive in which the second shot is played onto wide green protected by water. A hole of great scenic beauty is number 13, a Par 4 that provides a great opportunity for a birdie.
